The Bavarian State must return five copies of Hitler’s book “Mein Kampf” and certain other “souvenirs” to Anni Winter, the former housekeeper at Hitler’s Munich apartment, the District Court ruled here.

In handing down this decision, the court said that the Bavarian State, for its part, may retain the custodianship of three old Nazi Party badges engraved with Hitler’s initials, a picture of Hitler in a silver frame, ten sketches “doodled” by Hitler while he was telephoning, and other such “personal possessions” of the departed Fuehrer. All were seized three years ago when Mrs. Winter offered them for sale, reportedly asking $25,000, She sued for their return.
