The Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission today censured Israel for the raid early yesterday on the Jordan village of Nahalin in which nine Arabs were killed and more than a dozen wounded. At the same time official Israeli sources today reported the concentration of Jordan forces in the region of Nahalin, which is some five miles from Bethlehem.
The vote on the resolution condemning Israel was cast by the Jordanian delegates and the United Nations chairman, Commander Elmo Hutchison, U.S. Navy, Israel having walked out of the commission last week after the failure of the unit to act on the Negev bus massacre. The resolution, announced at UN headquarters here, said the raid was “the most flagrant breach of the armistice “
“The Mixed Armistice Commission condemns Israel in the strongest terms for this latest aggression and calls on Israel authorities to take the most effective measures to prevent such and other aggressions against Jordan in the future and apprehend and punish those responsible,” the resolution stated.
Israeli circles, commenting on the action of the MAC, noted that passage of the Jordan-proposed resolution was speedy and displayed a noticeable lack of hesitation. These same circles contrasted the MAC’s action in this case with its hesitant deliberation and indecision in major Israeli complaints, particularly the Negev massacre case.
