Arab League Decides to Pressure U.S. to Cease Aid to Israel

The Arab League Council announced in Cairo today that it will use all possible diplomatic pressures to oppose further American economic aid to Israel. Recommendations to extend the boycott of Israel were approved, the announcement said.

The Council also announced that a committee of “experts” was designated to study the “political, engineering, and military” aspects of Israel’s use of the waters of the Jordan river. When the study is completed, a report is to be made containing special recommendations for the course to be followed by the Governments of Syria, Lebanon, an Jordan. The committee will include representatives of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan.

Simultaneously, it was reported here that Egypt has invited Gen. Vagn Bennike, United Nations truce chief, to come to Cairo “in order to express to him Egypt’s growing concern about the Israel-Egyptian border area. ” Gen. Bennike was expected to arrive in Cairo late today.
