The need for a central representative body of world Jewry was re-emphasized here last night by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, addressing a meeting of Israeli leaders including members of the Parliament. Dr. Goldmann spoke on problems facing the World Jewish Congress and world Jewry today.
The chairman of the Jewish Agency and president of the World Jewish Congress expressed the belief that it is possible that, sooner or later, the Zionist movement would also find its way to a world-wide representative Jewish organization. He also mentioned other steps made to widen the frame of the World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Goldmann said that World Jewry will not tolerate the continuation of the stand taken by the Austrian Government with regard to the negotiations on indemnification for Jewish property. He urged intensification of the social and cultural work among neglected undeveloped Jewish communities, especially in North Africa. He pointed out the need for coordinated activity of various Jewish welfare and cultural bodies in North Africa.
