The views of the American Jewish Committee on loyalty and security in government and private employment were made public here today in a report issued in connection with the two-day semi-annual meeting of the Committee’s national executive which opens here on Saturday.
The report, based on a two-year evaluation of security problems in this country, was termed by Irving M. Engel, president of the American Jewish Committee, a contribution of his organization “towards a clear understanding of the source and nature of the dangers which actually confront us. “
The report says that there is need for some type of security program. “Communist infiltration into government positions is now known to be systematic and, in certain key areas, it has at times been highly successful. Procedures for punishing guilty government employees after the fact are not the answer; what is clearly required is a procecure which stil make it possible to prevent damage,” the report points out.
It discusses legislative investigation into subversive activities, and deplores the fact that few such inquiries have maintained standards of fairness.
