The merger of the migration department of the Joint Distribution Committee with the immigration services of HIAS and United Service for New Americans was announced here today by Moses W. Beckelman, JDC director of overseas operations, Ben Touster, HIAS president, and Edwin Rosenberg, USNA head.
It was also announced that the new agency–United HIAS Service–will begin operating from its Paris headquarters this July 1. Its major task will be assisting some 20,000 Jews who have already indicated their desire to leave Europe. In addition, Mr. Touster said, the agency would address itself to the problem of the “honorable repatriation of Israeli returnees.”
The new director of the organization will be announced in New York after Mssrs. Touster and Rosenberg return there.
