The Austrian Government has agreed to pay pensions and social security payments due former Austrian Jews living abroad, regardless of whether they have maintained their Austrian citizenship or not, it was announced here today. This is the first concrete result of the resumed Austro-Jewish negotiation for claims set forth by world Jewry.
The negotiators are now concentrating on two other matters, the amount to be paid by the Austrian Government in settlement of claims for heirless Jewish property and the amount to be paid as indemnification for synagogues, cemeteries and other Jewish communal property destroyed or damaged by the Nazis. Negotiators on both sides expect further progress.
