Johnston and Israel Ministers Confer on Jordan River Plans

Eric Johnston, President Eisenhower’s personal envoy, and an Israel ministerial committee headed by Premier Moshe Sharett, conferred for a second time today on the American and Israeli plans for regional development of the water and power resources of the Jordan Valley. The negotiators reached no conclusions today and the talks will continue tomorrow.

Today’s three-hour session was held at the government offices here; the first session was held in Jerusalem yesterday. Both Mr. Johnston and the Israeli committee were accompanied by technical advisors at today’s session. The Israeli committee includes Mr. Sharett, Minister of Agriculture Peretz Naphtali and Minister of Trade and Industry Peretz Bernstein. Ambassador Johnston also conferred with American officials at the Embassy here. He entertained the Israeli delegation at luncheon.
