Israel may be expected to reach a population totaling 2,000,000 by 1960, according to Z. Y. Hershlag, lecturer on regional economics at the Hebrew University, who today addressed British radio listeners over one of the British Broadcasting Company networks here.
Speaking on the economic aspects facing Israel, Mr. Hershlag said: “The impact of mass immigration is still being felt. The real issue is whether the country is progressing toward integration of the mass immigration into balance with Israel’s over-all economy.”
World Jewry may again have to become the most reliable source of new capital for further balancing of Israel’s economy, Mr. Hershlag declared, owing to the decrease of United States grants in aid.
