Religious Issue Introduced in Congressional Elections in Atlanta

A Congressional candidate here has introduced the religious issue in his campaign to attack a rival candidate who is of the Jewish faith.

In a campaign brodacast, Wyman C. Lowe described Morris Abrams as a representative of the “minority Jewish faith, while I am a representative of the majority Protestant faith.” Mr. Lowe charged that Mr. Abrams is receiving financial support from New York interests, and is under the domination of outside and foreign organizations.

Mr. Abrams, who opened his campaign for election from the Fifth Congressional District this week, said he would campaign solely on the political issues in question. “I will not engage in racial and religious bigotry, nor conduct my campaign along those lines, no matter what my opponents may say,” he declared.
