PARIS (Aug. 5)
Six Jews are among the 13 killed in this week’s outbreaks in Petitjean, French Morocco, it was reported here today by the French News Agency.
No estimate was given in the report of the looted Jewish property and the damages suffered by Jews whose stores were pillaged.
Moslem riots took place also in Fez, the report said, but no Jewish casualties were reported there. The crowds in Fez have been calling for the third day for the return to Morocco of the former Sultan, Mohammed Ben Yusef, who was exiled by the French authorities.
(In New York, the office of the Istiqlal Party of Morocco issued a statement blaming the French colonists for allegedly stirring up trouble between Moroccan Jews and the Moslem population. “The Jewish faction in Morocco is actively participating in the liberation of the country,” the statement said. It demanded the return of the exiled Sultan from France.)
