Dr. J.G. de Beus, charge d’affaires of the Netherlands Embassy, today met with Philip Klutznick, national president of B’nai B’rith, to discuss the case of two Dutch Jewish war orphans who are being brought up by foster parents in the Roman Catholic faith, contrary to the expressed wishes of the parents, who were victims of the Nazis.
The orphans, Anneke Beekman and Rebecca Milhado, were saved from the Nazis by the foster parents, but are now being brought up as Roman Catholics. Mr.. Klutznick told Dr. de Beus that “it is the hope of the Jewish people that the Dutch Government will continue its earnest efforts to restore these children to the environment of their heritage. “
“All persons concerned with this subject, of whatever sectarian beliefs, have noted with approval the diligence of the Dutch Minister of Justice and his police officers, in endeavoring to trace the whereabouts of these orphans. On the other hand, we cannot help but convey to you our disappointment with the attitude of certain others, ” the B’nai B’rith president emphasized.
