The hope that “the important and conciliatory proposals Israel has lately made may point the way at least toward direct negotiations with the Arabs” was expressed here last night by Adlai Stevenson, former Presidential candidate and titular head of the Democratic Party, in a foreign policy address.
Mr. Stevenson also noted that the British and the Egyptians have settled the “menacing dispute” over the Suez Canal, and added: “But after seven years there is no peace between the Arabs and Israel, whose fears are now aggravated by our government’s plan to arm her Arab neighbors.”
