The Cabinet of the West German Republic, at its first meeting following conclusion of the Nine-Power Treaty in Paris, adopted a resolution to carry out all the state’s obligations and commitments for restitution to victims of Nazi persecution, Dr. Walter Hallstein, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, disclosed here today.
Prof. Hallstein told the United Nations Correspondents Association that some of the problems in connection with restitution to victims of Nazi persecution no longer exist as they did two years ago, when Germany made its “Settlements Agreement” with the United States, Great Britain and France. However, he said, “by all means, all commitments on restitution will be maintained by Germany as a sovereign state.”
The matter of the German-Israel reparations treaty did not even come up at the Paris Conference, Dr, Hallstein declared. The provisions of that treaty, he said, “are working well.”
