An Israel military spokesman reported that an Israel border patrol in the Meggido area was attacked today by Jordanians, while guarding workers in the fields near the demarcation line. Israel reinforcements enabled the patrol to withdraw. One policeman was wounded, the report said.

(Reports from Amman to London today quoted a speech by King Hussein calling for “a fighting air force” and rejecting the idea of peace with Israel.

“My Government’s policy on Palestine,” the speech said, “remains the same as that of the other Arab countries – no peace, no negotiations with the Jews.”)
