A special channel may be dredged in the Kishon River Estuary for the mooring of the new floating drydock which arrived at Haifa this week after a 5,000-mile journey from the North Sea port of Luebeck, it was learned in Haifa today.
The dock, valued at about $2, 000, 000, was turned over to Israel as German reparations payment. It will be manned by 70 workers, most of them recent immigrants from Tunis who are presently working at other dock jobs. At its temporary mooring place, the floating drydock has displaced three vessels formerly tied up there. The dock, expected to be in operation by next September, will be able to do repair and maintenance work on vessels in the 10, 000 ton class.
