Israel Vessel Built in Germany Prepares to Sail for Haifa

The 7,000-ton Dagan, the first cargo-passenger vessel to be completed by a German shipyard under the Israel reparations program was today loading cargo here for her maiden voyage to her home port of Haifa, The vessel completed her shakedown voyage in the North Sea in fine style and was immediately turned over to its new Israeli owners, Zim-Shoham Shipping Lines.

At London, the vessel will pick up her first 12 passengers for the trip to Haifa. The first cargo from Israel will be the first cargo of Jaffa oranges shipped to Europe from this season’s crop. Once the maiden voyage is completed, the vessel will be placed on an Israel-Europe-American run. The vessel has special refrigerated holds for citrus fruit.
