The Conservative rabbis were strongly criticized today at a conference of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, an Orthodox group, for their “continuous misrepresentations of the Jewish jurisprudence and their ever-growing efforts to undermine the significance of Jewish tradition.”

The 300 rabbis who attended the conference were urged by Rabbi Harry J. Kaufman, chairman of the Alliance, “to put an end to the policy of appeasement and reconciliation towards the Conservative movement which has hithertofore been prevalent in Orthodox circles.”

Rabbi Kaufman deplored the Conservative rabbis who “despite their ostentations efforts to cloud their true intentions with the language of traditional Judaism, fail to practice the fundamental principles of Orthodox Judaism, publicly violate the Law of the Sabbath, Dietary Laws and the Sanctify of the Family.”

Rabbi Samuel A. Turk, chairman of the executive board of the Alliance, emphasized “the urgency for a concerted and united effort of all Orthodox rabbinic and lay groups to guard against any encroachment upon the traditional synagogue and community by these non-conforming rabbis who purport to represent the traditional viewpoint of Judaism.”
