Memorial services for the Jewish communities of Europe wiped out by the Nazis were held throughout Israel today and the traditional fast day was observed today, the tenth day of the Hebrew month of Teveth, which has been set aside as a memorial day for the destroyed communities.
Prayers and psalms were recited throughout the day on Mt. Zion and a special mass service was held this afternoon in the "Cave of Catastrophe," on the height. The Israel Chief Rabbinate has called on synagogues throughout the world to light candles for the murdered Jews whose actual date of death is unknown. Their memorial date has been fixed as of this day.
