Victims of racial persecution in Fascist Italy who lost their ability to work as a result of torture or other persecutions will be pensioned for life under a law passed today by the Italian Senate.
The measure, which also provides benefits for political opponents of Fascism who were persecuted, provides special retirement benefits for persecutees who are still employed. The measure covers political victims since 1922, when Mussolini took control of Italy, and racial victims since 1938 when the first racist laws were adopted.
It is expected that the law will cost the Italian Government 50,000,000 lire in the first year and 100,000,000 lire the next year. The law sets up a commission to establish qualifications for benefits authorized by the measure.
