Professor Leon Carnovsky of the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago has arrived in Israel on a three-month mission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. His mission, part of the United Nations Technical Assistance program, will take him to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem to advise the Israel Government in establishing a program for training librarians.
In an interview, Professor Carnovsky commented that Israel “is probably one of the most book-conscious nations in the world, but its libraries have developed faster than new librarians could be trained.” Professor Carnovsky was a member of a United States Government education mission to Japan in 1946.
