Israel archaeologists, digging near Massada, in the Dead Sea area, have unearthed the ruins of the 2,000-year-old palace of King Herod the Great, the United Press reported from Jerusalem this week-end.
The dispatch quoted Michael Avi Yona, of the Israel Department of Antiquities to the effect that the palace was uncovered during a 12-day survey by an expedition which has just returned to Jerusalem. The expedition was reported to have found the earliest mosaics yet uncovered in Israel. The archaeologists found at the site of the palace, pottery, pillars, inscriptions and vast cisterns, among other things.
