Official greetings of the South African Government were delivered today at the opening of the Israel Pavilion at the Rand Easter Show–South Africa’s biggest trade fair–by J.S. Theron, Secretary of Commerce.
Mr. Theron said that his Government welcomed Israel’s entry into South African markets. “We wish Israel an honored place in our import trade,” he said. “They are turning out quality goods and we’re happy to have them share in the South African market. You have only a modest stand now, but we hope that within a few years your country will be represented by a big pavilion.”
The Israel stand was opened by Johannesburg’s Mayor George Beckett, who said it was gratifying that Israel participation in last year’s Rand Show encouraged her to make a reappearance this year on a more advanced scale. “I hope,” said Mayor Beckett, “that Israel’s fine exhibit will attract the interest of our citizens and lead to reciprocal trade to the mutual benefit of both countries.”
Israel Consul General Ephraim Eylon expressed Israel’s appreciation of the close ties and sympathy between the two countries and also expressed the hope that they would be cemented by such reciprocal trade. The Israel pavilion exhibits a wide range of Israel manufactured goods. Three Israel businessmen are present at the showing to promote trade.
