Military blocs “imposed” on the Middle East by the Western Powers were denounced yesterday by the Soviet Union which warned that it may appeal such actions to the United Nations if these “threats” continue according to Moscow broadcasts monitored here.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Moscow, the United States and Britain were accused of taking measures “calculated to involve by a devious way, singly or two at a time, the countries of the Near and Middle East in this or that grouping created under their domination.”

The statement declared that Soviet policy in the Middle East is based on “non-interference in internal affairs, respect for national independence, and state sovereignty,” while the Western Powers are attempting “to cover up the aggressive character of the plans of the U.S.A. and Britain by inane inventions about ‘the Soviet threat.'”
