The activities of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League were praised today by President Eisenhower in a message to the organization in connection with its 42nd annual convention which opens tomorrow at the Waldorf-Astoria.
“All of us,” the President said in his message to Henry Edward Schultz, ADL national chairman, “must strive to uphold the principle of the value of the individual, to further understanding of minority groups, to help make the vision of brotherhood a reality in our land. Such efforts, good in themselves, are critical in the world struggle in which we are engaged. On the service which your organization has given in these endeavors since the early years of this century, I congratulate all of you.”
More than 700 Jewish communal leaders will participate in the four-day convention, at which important aspects of the fight against anti-Semitism and the protection of civil rights will be discussed. The controversial issues that have arisen over the Federal loyalty-security program and its effect on civil liberties will be among the major topics of discussion, as will the problems of segregation, inter group education and religion in public schools.
