President Eisenhower made known at his press conference today that he is not satisfied with the present operation of the Refugee Relief Act under which 214,000 immigrants are to enter this country and that he would support legislation introduced in the Senate to effect liberalization.
When asked if he was satisfied with the operation of the Act, the President replied in the negative. He said “yes” when asked whether he would support legislation introduced in the Senate to facilitate the program. It was not specified in the questions and answers what legislation specifically was in reference. Earlier this week Sen. Herbert H. Lehman introduced a measure to overhaul current immigration procedures.
