Educators attending the annual convention here of the National Council for Jewish Education were urged today to accept leadership posts in their various communities in order to help mold Jewish community life. In a resolution adopted at the closing session of the conference, the educators were asked to help guide Jewry as it begins its fourth century of life in America.
The conference decided to formulate a set of standards for accrediting Hebrew schools and appointed a commission to draft standards, Another resolution called for a national conference in the Fall, in cooperation with the American Association for Jewish Education, the lay body associated with the National Council, to consider the problem of Jewish teacher shortage. All forces in the community will be drawn into this conference.
Dr. David Rudavsky, executive director of the Bureau of Jewish Education of Essex County, N.J., was re-elected president of the National Council today. Vice-presidents include Dr. Joseph Diamond, educator of Toronto, Yudel Mark, educator of New York, Hillel Henkin, educator of New Haven, Conn., and Dr. Israel Naamani, educator of Louisville, Ky.
