The contributions of the Jews of the Lower East Side of New York to the American scene were memorialized here yesterday at a mass meeting at Strauss Square, in the heart of the area. The rally, which drew 8,000 to 10,000 persons, was part of the observance of the American Jewish Tercentenary.
Among the principal speakers at the meeting, which was presided over by Judge Jonah J. Goldstein, were Rep. Arthur G. Klein; Alexander Kahn, manager of the Jewish Daily Forward; S. Dingol, editor of the Day-Jewish Morning Journal; Judge Jacob Panken; Justice Jacob Markowitz; Nathan Chanin, general secretary of the Workmen’s Circle, and Joseph Scholossberg, secretary-treasurer emeritus of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.
