W. J. C. Hopes for Contact with “iron Curtain” Jewish Communities

The hope that the projected Four Power talks will bring some easing of the obstacles to contact with Jewish communities in Eastern Europe was expressed here today at the concluding session of the European executive of the World Jewish Congress.

The session dealt with problems caused by the emergence of neo-Nazism in Germany as well as with the position of the Jewish communities in North Africa. Representatives from Austria, Belgium, France, Britain, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Algeria and French Morocco attended the conference. General agreement that the Jewish communities of Western Europe are still fighting a spiritual battle, hampered by shortages of Jewish schools and teachers, emerged from the discussions.
