Dr. Abraham J. Feldman, rabbi of Temple Beth Israel of Hartford, Conn., was elected president of the Synagogue Council of America for the coming year at the final national plenary session of the Council last night. The Synagogue Council represents synagogue and rabbinic bodies of all three sections of Judaism in the United States.
In a series of resolutions, the Council hailed the decisions on desegregation issued by the United States Supreme Court as “the practical expression of the philosophy of racial brotherhood which is basic to Judaism,” expressed concern over the “rapid and widespread growth of juvenile delinquency throughout the United States, and called on the American Jewish community to pray for Divine guidance for the delegates at the forthcoming tenth anniversary session of the United Nations at San Francisco.
