A total of 222 degrees and diplomas in course, the largest in the institution’s 69-year history and five honorary degrees, were conferred today by Yeshiva University at its annual commencement exercises here. The seven divisions of the University awarded 132 Bachelor of Arts degrees, 31 teachers diplomas, 16 Bachelor of Religious Education degrees, two Master of Science degrees and 15 graduate degrees among others.
The following honorary degrees were awarded. New York State Attorney General Jacob K. Javits Doctor of Laws; Herman Wouk, author of “The Caine Mutiny.” Doctor of Humane Letters; Dr Carroll V. Newsom New York State Associate Commissioner for higher Education, Doctor of Humane Letters; Max Stern founder of the University’s Stern College for Women, Doctor of Humane Letters, and Rabbi Oscar Z. Fasman, president of Hebrew Theological College of Chicago, Doctor of Divinity. Mrs. Doris Ktaemer mother of three children and psychologist of the Jewish Child Care Association and Jewish Vocational Service of Newark. N.J., became the first woman to receive a doctorate in course from the University.
