Egypt Attacks Israel Plane; Three Israelis Wounded in Gaza Area

An attack on an Israel plane by heavy anti-air-craft fire from an Egyptian post was reported today by an Israel military spokesman. The attack took place while the Israel plane was over Israel territory near Berri.

The military spokesman also revealed that early this morning Egyptian infiltrators fired on Israel settlers at the Patish settlement, near the Gaza border. Three Israelis are reported wounded. Egyptian infiltrators also crossed into Israel territory south of Nahal Oz this weekend, with a flock of about 500 head of cattle. When Israel settlers fired on the infiltrators, an Egyptian military post opened heavy mortar fire to cover the infiltrators’ retreat. The exchange of fire continued for an hour with no casualties on the Israel side.

A four-hour clash between Israel and Jordanian forces took place yesterday near Shaar Hagolah, in the Beisan Valley. A military spokesman said that clash began when an Israel patrol was fired on by Jordanian positions inside Jordanian territory. The patrol was moving along the border south of Lake Kinneret. No casualties were reported. The Israelis returned the Jordanian fire, but owing to the topography of the area, Israel armored cars had to be brought up to remove the patrol from its pinned-down position.
