Salary increases ranging from six to 190 pounds monthly have been recommended for all classes of civil service workers in Israel except school teachers and members of the armed forces under a Cabinet decision announced last night. The cost of these increases is expected to come to 5,000,000 pounds annually and will be met by a two and one-half percent reduction in other budget items of each of the Ministries concerned.
Salary increases will be retroactive to July. The question of gradings is still to be decided as is the salary adjustments of teachers and military personnel. Included in the increase recommended by the Cabinet are raises for physicians, who have threatened to strike if the government offer does not meet their demands.
