Germany Will Build 21 Ships for Israel Under Reparations Agreement

German shipyards will build 21 ships for Israel as reparations goods in the next two years, a spokesman for the Ministry of Transportation announced today. The total value of these ships will come to $41,500,000 the spokesman said.

Five of these ships are already completed and six others will be ready by the end of the year, at which time the Israel merchant marine will number 38 sea-going vessels with a total tonnage of 150,000 tons.

The railroad spur to Beersheba will be finished by the end of January, the spokesman said, and work is proceeding on assembling 125 freight cars for the line, each weighing twenty-five tons.
