The Jewish War Veterans of America, meeting here today in their 60th annual convention, called on Secretary of State John Foster Dulles to demand that the Soviet Union cease Communist arms shipments to Egypt, National Commander Joseph F. Barr cabled Mr. Dulles after reports on the Middle East situation had been delivered to the organization’s national executive committee. They warned that Communist arms shipments could convert the Arab-Israel crisis into “another Korea.”

Formal sessions of the convention will get under way tomorrow after the national executive committee completes three days of deliberations. The committee yesterday heard Isaiah Minkoff, executive director of the National Community Relations Advisory Council, at a luncheon in his honor. Mr. Minkoff declared that in the East-West conflict for the adherence of the uncommitted Asian and African peoples, Jewish community relations workers had a right to consider their work a vital sector in the battle. He pointed out that the Communists exploit every American lapse in dealing with minority groups.

Mr. Minkoff asserted that no one Jew or Jewish organization could “go it alone” in this field. No one agency, he noted, could successfully set itself up as the arbiter of what was best for the Jewish community as a whole, nor did any single group have the Jewish community “in its pocket.”
