Bitter attacks against Abba Eban, Israel’s delegate to the United Nations, featured long speeches made today by Arab representatives debating the Arab refugee problem in the General Assembly’s special political committee. While Mr. Eban drew most of the Arab fire, some of the barbs were also directed at Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett and Premier David Ben Gurion. The Arab speakers included Victor Khouri of Lebanon, and Mohamed Fadil Jamali of Iraq.
Mordecai R. Kidron, deputy chairman of the Israel delegation to the United Nations, clashed today with the Iraqi delegate, accusing the latter before a plenary session of the General Assembly of distortion in his anxiety to drag in attacks on Israel in and out of season. The Israel delegate also accused the Iraqi representative of falsification when he contended that the General Assembly never had the legal power to admit Israel into the United Nations.
