A large audience consisting of government and civic leaders, diplomatic officials and relatives of students attended the festive commencement exercises in Haifa at which General Yaacov Dori, president of the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, distributed diplomas to 223 engineers and architects, members of the 26th graduating class, and declared the academic year open.
“This academic harvest is a source of encouragement to us, and is eloquent proof of Technion’s contributions in the fields of science and technology in Israel” said the Technion president. New developments this year included the opening of undergraduate courses in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, with 25 first-year and 15 second-year students, he continued. This year also, studies in oil technology were being introduced as a first step towards the ultimate development of a full-fledged department in this field.
