France’s top literary award, “Prix Goncourt,” was awarded yesterday to Roger Ikor, French-born son of Russian Jewish immigrants. The award was made for his novel “Les Eaux Melees” (The Mingled Waters) the second of two volumes published under the title of “Les Fils d’Avrom” (The Sons of Abraham). The work traces the history of a Jewish refugee from Tsarist Russia who settled in France and his family.
Commenting on his work after the award was made M. Ikor said that it was “not exactly” a history of his family, although he had drawn on family history. “Anti-Semitism presented such problems for me that I wanted to settle them once and for all,” he said.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
