Synagogues throughout the country marked “Tercentenary Sabbath” here yesterday, with the recitation of special prayers and the delivery of sermons on the subject. Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie officiated at services at the Great Synagogue in the heart, of the city, the oldest Ashkenazi house of prayer here, while the Haham of the Sephardic congregation officiated at the Bevis Marks synagogue, which is the historical center of Sephardic worship here At the main Liberal synagogue in London, Rabbi Leslie Edgar delivered the sermon on the tercentenary theme.
The role of British Jewry in the national life of the country was lauded in the press this week-end as the tercentenary celebration began.
