The Moroccan Government has dissolved the “Inspectorate of Jewish Institutions,” an office created by the old French administration in this country to deal with matters affecting Moroccan Jews. Its director was Maurice Botbol. In recent months a number of Moroccan Jewish nationalists had attacked the “Inspectorate” as a servant of the French administration.
Moroccan Government circles here noted that the dissolution should be regarded as a further implementation of the new government’s policy of non-differentiation between Jews and Moslems here. The Council for the Beth Din (religious court), which was formerly a department within the “Inspectorate” will now come under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department, while Jewish community committees will be supervised by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The appointment of a Moroccan Jewish businessman as “Directeur de Cabinet,” or head of the departmental staff, has been announced here today by Moroccan Finance Minister Abdelkadr ben Zalloun. Nominated for the new post was Sam ben Zeraf.
