A campaign to raise $250,000 as an endowment fund for the Jewish Reconstructionist Foundation in celebration of the seventy-fifth birthday of Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan, eminent Jewish theologian and philosopher, was announced by the Foundation this week-end. The fund is expected to be raised by a national campaign to be conducted between now and April 22, when Dr. Kaplan’s birthday will be celebrated at a dinner which will be tendered to him at the Waldorf Astoria.
“The fund will be used by the Reconstructionist Foundation to perpetuate Dr. Kaplan’s life work through the publication of his writings and the creative contributions of other scholars and thinkers to the spiritual and cultural life of the Jewish community,” the announcement said. It will finance the expansion of the Reconstructionist official publication, through which it interprets general and Jewish affairs, and will also be used for introducing Reconstructionist projects in Israel.
