An appeal to American Jewry to give maximum aid to Israel through the United Jewish Appeal was voiced here by Barnett Janner, veteran Jewish member of the British Parliament, addressing a regional UJA conference attended by more than 400 delegates.

Mr. Janner, who is also president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, revealed that Israel must spend $20,000,000 for air raid shelters because of the fear of a sudden Arab air attack. “We, in England, know what it mean to construct and raid shelters.” he stated. He emphasized Israel’s need for defensive arms and expressed the hope that the Western Powers will supply the Jewish State with such weapons to meet the huge quantity of war materiel now being supplied to the Arabs by Soviet Russia.
