The British Government was today asked in Parliament by Labor MP John Dugdale to place restrictions on goods from Arab countries that discriminate against British firms that are either Jewish-owned or that deal with Israel. However, G. E. P. Thornycroft, president of the Board of Trade, opposed the suggestion on the grounds that it would be answering racial discrimination with “counter racial discrimination.”
Earlier, Mr. Thornycroft said that he “deplored” Arab boycott of British firms which dealt with Israel. Although he promised to see what could be done about the matter, he was not hopeful. He stated frankly that he did “not see any future course of action open to the (British) Government.”
