There will be no changes in the Foreign Ministry, Davar, the Histadrut newspaper, reported here today. The labor paper discounted reports that Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett would resign to take over the post of general secretary of Mapai, Israel’s Labor Party.
Meanwhile, the evening newspaper Maariv reported that a Cabinet shuffle based on Mr. Sharett’s resignation which was expected today has been postponed for two or three weeks. The delay was occasioned by pressure from other members of the Cabinet, Maariv asserted, stating that the crisis had not been averted, merely delayed. The paper predicted that Mrs. Golda Myerson will eventually take over the Foreign Ministry’s post.
Other expected changes listed by Maariv include the recall of Ambassador Abba Eban from the United States to Jerusalem to head the political section of the Foreign Minister, with Ambassador Eliahu Elath leaving London to take up Mr. Eban’s posts at Washington and the United Nations. For the London post, Maariv said, the name of Dr. Walter Eytan, director general of the Foreign-Ministry, has been suggested.
