The President’s Committee on Government Employment Policy refused today to discuss the status of recent complaints made to it against the government policy of excluding American Jews from service in Arab countries. A committee spokesman said that as a matter of policy, the committee never publicly reveals complaints made against any agency.
Criticism of the Defense and State Department policies in Saudi Arabia were recently made by American Jewish Committee representative Colonel Harold Reigelman. These views were told to a conference on non-discrimination in the Federal Service, which included intergroup relations organizations, Federal agencies, the President’s Committee.
According to summary notes on the conference on non-discrimination, Col. Reigelman told the Committee that the government policy excluding American Jews from service in Saudi Arabia is a complete denial of the Federal service non-discrimination policy. He proposed that the government direct all departments to end all cooperation with Arab discrimination. He also suggested that all contracts and agreements should include nondiscriminatory provisions.
