A British firm has forced the Iraqi Government to back down on a demand that it satisfy the Iraqi Embassy in London that none of its directors or management personnel were Jews, the London press reported here today. One newspaper commented that if the Iraqi Government could be forced to retreat, the other Arab states could also be forced to give up their anti-Jewish boycott campaign.
The specific case dealt with a shipment of medical supplies sent to Iraq by Medochemicals, Ltd. The shipment was impounded and held by customs agents in Iraq pending the British concern’s “clearing” itself. Medochemicals refused to supply the information demanded. Information about the case found its way into the press and a number of questions were asked in Parliament, whereupon the Iraqi Government reversed itself and admitted the medical supplies.
