The Rabbinical Alliance of America, an Orthodox group, today called upon New York State authorities to liberalize the divorce laws of the state of New York. The plea was heard in testimony at the Joint Legislative Committee on Matrimonial and Family Laws, which conducted its hearings at the Bar Association of New York.

The Alliance also urged that a marriage guidance and counseling service be established, whose function it would be to explore with the parties seeking divorce, the possibility of reconciliation. “It is our belief that a clergyman’s participation in these clinical sessions would prove most beneficial since the guidance of a spiritual leader is sought in moments of crisis in one’s family or personal life,” the rabbinical organization said.
