J.N.F. Planted 5,000,000 Trees in Israel During 1956, Report Says

The Jewish National Fund planted some 5,000,000 trees during the 1956 planting season, a new record for afforestation in this country, it was reported here today. Trees were planted in the Galilee, Jerusalem corridor, Lachish area and Samarian Hills, as well as the southern Negev where more than 1,300,000 trees were planted. For the first time, carob trees, which provide cattle fodder, were planted in great quantities.
