The Middle East was presumably a major topic of discussion at President Eisenhower’s meeting with the National Security Council today.
The International Cooperation Administration today denied any policy difference with the State Department over foreign aid shipments to Egypt. The ICA spokesman said that the State Department is in agreement that major items involving large expenditures would be “reviewed” at American and European ports before leaving for Egypt.
He said that no previous commitments to Egypt made for the current fiscal year have been withdrawn. He added that no major items for Egypt are now pending and in need of review. In the future, he said, major items for Egypt shall be reviewed in the light of the political conditions existing at that time. The reviewing procedure is in connection with the Suez crisis.
