Egyptian seizure of the Suez Canal Company makes it even more imperative than before for the signatories of the Tripartite Declaration of 1950 to reaffirm that stand and consider Israel’s request for arms, R. N. Carvalho, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, declared in a statement here. He stressed that the Egyptian economic boycott of Israel would obviously be intensified with Egypt in a stronger position than ever before.

Expressing his strong fear of an Egyptian attack on Israel, Mr. Carvalho asserted that the whole raison d etre of the present Egyptian regime is to prepare itself for what it hopes will be a death blow at Israel. “it is my urgent hope that the British Government will give immediate and serious consideration to Israel’s plight and supply Israel with those arms so urgently required for defense,” the leader of the non-Zionist organization declared.

Mr. Carvalho added that he hoped that Egyptian policy would bring home to the West that Israel was its only natural friend and ally in the Middle East. Any difficulties the Western Powers might experience over free passage through the Suez Canal would bring home the difficulties long experienced by Israel, he said.
